Home Improvement Projects....

So here's the project: update the powder room. And by powder room, I mean that closet-sized bathroom just off the kitchen...you know, the one that all of our visitors use.

Because of its size, there's not a lot that can be done with it, except some color and fixture updates.

What I want to do is paint the walls, re-finish (paint) the vanity cabinet, and update all the fixtures (light, towel ring, faucet).

So here are some before pictures:

  1. I like the idea of the gray, but isn't it already gray? I don't know if you're planning on sticking with the red, but if so, I love the idea of the red and black and gray. (Oh wait, those are my business "colors." Of course I love them!) Anyway, it also will tie in nicely with the floor since it may be a while until you get to change that out. (Whereas the gold would clash quite a bit with the floor, I think.) Anyway, I think black cabinets would look really sharp, and the brushed nickel would look great! Well... that's my vote. BTW - if you're doing it while he's gone, is it going to be a surprise, or just something to keep you occupied? Either way - sounds fun! :)

  2. It's a very light gray right now (mostly a dingy white). The gray I'm considering is the same as we used in Connor's room (it's quite a bit darker).

The tile floor actually does have some tannish colors in it (I know, it's weird...can't wait to replace that), so it wouldn't really clash, just bring out some different colors.

It's not a surprise. But I want to do it while he's gone so he doesn't have to deal with the mess I'll make and the grumpy that I'll be. :)

  3. What about a light green and a soft beige combo? Just an idea, but I'm not much of a interior designer, so it probably isn't a good one!

  4. The kitchen and family room will eventually be green, so I think that would be too much green. :)

  5. I really like the gray, but I think you can't go wrong with either. If you want brushed nickle hardware it will probably look better with the gray paint....the gold is an extremely warm color. If you want to see the Bungalow Gold up close and in person you should stop by my house sometime. Also, you might consider buying a can of metallic paint and just change the color of your current hardware. I just bought a can of it at Roberts (under $5) and transformed an old light fixture. Definitely cheaper than buying new fixtures.

  6. Pattie, the bigger problem is that I hate the fixtures. :) I don't like the globe lights or the faucet, so it's not just the color. :) I'll tell you a secret... I'm leaning towards the gray myself. :)

  7. Yeah, I know what you mean about the globe lights. I got rid of the ones in our house pretty quickly after we moved in. You can get a new light bar for pretty inexpensive...Lowes has the best selection. I bet once you paint the room and put a new light fixture up, the faucet won't bother you as much.
